    What Is Rhinoplasty?

    Last updated 3 days ago

If you want your nose to better complement your other facial features, you may want to consider rhinoplasty. This video explains this cosmetic surgery procedure in greater detail.

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, corrects nasal features that fail to enhance the face’s overall appearance. A person may seek this cosmetic procedure if they feel like their nose doesn’t really fit their face. To achieve the patient’s goals, a cosmetic surgeon may either add to or reduce the size of the nose. If you think a rhinoplasty might be right for you, consult Dr. Mesna who can explain your surgical options.

Mesna Plastic Surgery can help you achieve the aesthetic appearance you desire. To learn more about our cosmetic surgery services, call our Edina office at (612) 284-8672.

The Patient's Guide to the Rhinoplasty Procedure

    Last updated 11 days ago

A rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that changes the shape of the nose, allowing it to better complement the rest of the face. This procedure can shorten or lengthen the nose, reshape it, straighten the bridge, or correct issues like asymmetry, depressions, or bumps. If you’re considering a rhinoplasty, here’s what you need to know:

    Candidates

The ideal candidate for any type of plastic surgery is in good overall health and does not use tobacco. Ideally, you should have specific goals in mind and realistic expectations regarding the outcome. During your consultation with the plastic surgeon, he or she will examine your nose and help you determine if a rhinoplasty is right for you.

    Preparations

It is important to discuss your past medical history with your plastic surgeon, including any medical conditions you have and medications or supplements you may be taking. Be sure to mention any breathing issues, such as difficulty breathing through your nose, chronic sinus infections, etc.. A rhinoplasty may help improve these problems. For two weeks prior to the procedure and after it, avoid medications that reduce blood-clotting, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Ask a friend or family member to drive you home after your surgery and to stay with you for at least a day or two.

    Techniques

This type of plastic surgery may be performed under local or general anesthesia. The incisions are typically made inside the nose to minimize the visibility of scars. The specific techniques that each surgeon uses will vary, depending on your goals for your appearance. He or she can adjust the bone and/or cartilage of the nose to try to give you the appearance you desire.

The Truth About Comment Breast Augmentation Myths

    Last updated 1 month ago

Breast augmentation is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed each year, but myths about the surgery still abound. Don’t let misconceptions about breast implants scare you away from having this life-changing procedure. Consider these breast implant myths and the truth behind them:

    • Myth: Breast Implants Can’t Look Natural

There is no reason anyone has to know that you have had breast implant surgery. A skilled plastic surgeon can increase your bust line in a way that looks completely natural, so that only the people you choose to tell will know that you have  had anything done. You may see some women with obvious implants, but that’s usually because these women ask for implants that are larger than what their bodies are built for. You can choose whatever look you want for you breasts, including an understated, natural appearance.

    • Myth: Breast Implants Are Bad for Your Health

There was once concern that  leakage of silicone from breast implants could cause widespread or  systemic diseases. Many tests have been completed that have shown that leakage from a silicone implant is not associated with diseases elsewhere in the body.  The silicone gel may cause inflammatory changes in the breast tissue itself so the FDA recommends regular MRI scans of the breasts only for the silicone implants to monitor for inflammatory reactions. The saline implants are filled with sterile IV fluid so when the saline implants leak the water is naturally absorbed by the body and there is no need for regular MRI scans.

Could breast implants help you get the curves you’ve always wanted? Schedule a consultation at Mesna Plastic Surgery and find out. In addition to breast augmentations, we also offer tummy tucks, liposuction, and many other surgical and nonsurgical procedures to help you look and feel your best.
